Decatur City Dance is actively engaged in exciting and innovative dance projects. Our talent- ed company directors and dancers are working to bring performance to fruition through new, creative virtual formats.
In an continuing effort to provide the safest environment for our students and our faculty, Decatur School of Ballet has installed the iWave Air Purifying system in each of our 4 dance studios. "The iWave is an air purifying device that installs in any duct air conditioning system. When air passes over the iWave, ions produced by the device reduce pathogens, allergens, particles, smoke and odors in the air, creating a healthy environment without producing any harmful byproducts."
Decatur School Of Ballet Hosted Fall for Fall Dance Festival!
The Sunday Performance of Fall for Fall! Fall for Fall Dance Festival is Atlanta's first socially distanced outdoor dance festival. The shows took place Friday, September 11- Sunday, September 13 at different locations around the city. Decatur School of Ballet had the pleasure of hosting the Sunday show! No more than 20 tickets were sold at each show, masks were required, and seats were always spread out outside. Over the weekend, over 30 new works were premiered. Our very own Ms. Meg also performed in every show, as pictured above! We are proud to take part in the dance community by supporting new work and the return of live performance in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Bravo dancers and facilitators!
As we move into another season of dance, we are surrounded by constant reminders of how different this year will be. These differences in our dance season are all designed to keep your dancers and their families, as well as our faculty and staff, safe while keeping dance in all of our lives. In the past months, DSOB has been in consultation with leading physicians and experienced dance medicine professionals. We have also studied articles and we are keeping abreast of the constantly changing CDC guidance. The dance day is designed for safety, and we are excited about the steps we have implemented!
In keeping with our statement of renewed commitment to the support and solidarity with the Black community, we as an organization have created an ever-growing catalog of active steps to be taken in order to better the experience of current and future students in our school. We recognize the history of institutional racism within our country and the dance industry, and strongly renounce those as a part of the culture of our school and art form. We wish to support and nurture Black members of the community that take part in our school in any way, as well as the Decatur Community at large.
